How do I apply to receive computer equipment through ReCOM?

You must complete an Application Form available on the web site. This can be printed off and sent to us. ReCOM provides refurbished PC's to individuals who are disabled and charities/ voluntary organisations that serve people with disabilities and the disadvantaged.

We support projects where the equipment will be used to enhance the services offered to clients and are particularly interested in projects where the clients/ beneficiaries use the PC's themselves.

Does ReCOM charge for its services?

To cover the costs incurred in refurbishing computers we currently charge recipients from £75 for a desktop system. We aim to provide refurbished desktop computers with a minimum specification of a Pentium 4 processor (with CD-ROM and internet connection ), 17" CRT monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Each PC comes with a copy of Windows operating software through our membership of Microsoft's Community MAR programme. The price also includes a 3 month non-accidental back to base warranty including parts and labour.

What Operating System can we use when we receive the equipment?

This is your choice. Through our membership of the Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher (MAR) Scheme we can provide pre-installed copies of a windows operating system to voluntary groups and other eligible recipients. You may choose an alternative which we can pre-install at cost.

Do your computers come with a guarantee?

They come with a three month non-accidental back to base warranty which includes parts and labour.

Are you registered under the Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher (MAR) Scheme? What does this mean in practice?

ReCOM has been accepted as a MAR. This means that we can install Windows on to PCs to be received by qualifying educational or not-for profit charitable organisations at a very low cost.

Are there any conditions attached to receiving this software through the MAR scheme?

Microsoft do specify some conditions. A copy is installed on the PC's we provide and can be accessed from the desktop. This Agreement restricts the use of the software to the machine on which it was installed.

What about additional software?

Basic software can be preloaded if you wish at your own expense.

Do you provide any technical training?

Not at this stage but we are able to point you in the right direction for this.

What happens if my equipment breaks down after three months?

We would ask you to contact your local PC technician in the normal way.

Is there a helpline?

We cannot offer a technical Help Line but are willing to help with general advice concerning your computer requirements where we can.

How many computers can we apply for?

We advise you to discuss your total requirements with us before completing an application form if your requirement is for more than 6 computers.

Can you help us decide our precise requirements?

Yes, we shall be happy to discuss these with you. You can contact us by phone or e:mail us at info@recom.org.uk.

Can you install the equipment for us?

We may be able to arrange this for you at a reasonable cost; please discuss with us.
